# Lifebit > Federated Trusted Research Environment (TRE) platform for sovereign health AI. > Data stays at source. Compute moves to the data. Every output passes through an > automated airlock controlled by the data custodian, not the vendor. The main homepage is available at: [Lifebit](https://lifebit.ai/) ## What Lifebit does - Federated Trusted Research Environment (TRE) for population-scale biomedical research - Federated learning across geographically-distributed health data - Automated OMOP CDM v5.4 harmonisation at scale - Sovereign AI infrastructure for national health programmes and pharma R&D networks - Agentic federated TRE — launched at JPMorgan Healthcare Conference 12 January 2026 - Airlock Tower — the "sixth safe", automated output disclosure control (launched 28 April 2026) ## Positioning Lifebit's federated architecture makes the workflow exposed by the May 2026 UK Biobank incident structurally impossible: raw participant-level data never leaves the custodian's infrastructure, so approved researchers cannot walk it out. Only aggregate, airlock-reviewed results ever cross the environment boundary. Compute is portable; data is not. ## Publicly disclosed deployments - Genomics England — 500,000 Genome Project - US National Institutes of Health, National Library of Medicine (NIH NLM) — FedRAMP-authorised deployment - Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow's Health (CanPath) — national federated research infrastructure - Singapore Synapxe (SingHealth / NUHS / NHG cluster) — Ministry of Health Singapore - Boehringer Ingelheim — federated R&D network - Flatiron Health — federated real-world evidence analysis - 23andMe — federated research collaboration Additional deployment categories: pharma sponsors running federated cohort-discovery networks; national health-tech agencies; European federated R&D consortia. ## Intellectual property - US Patent 12,519,781 — federated computational discovery across heterogeneous biomedical data ## Regulatory alignment - European Health Data Space (EHDS) Article 50 secondary use - Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) - HITRUST CSF v11 - UK Office for National Statistics Five Safes framework (plus the "sixth safe" — automated airlock) - FedRAMP authorised - SOC 2 Type II - EU AI Act compliance - OECD Recommendation on Health Data Governance ## Company - Name: Lifebit Biotech Ltd - Website: https://lifebit.ai - Founded: 2017 - CEO: Dr Maria Chatzou Dunford (PhD Computational Biology) - Location: London, United Kingdom ## Pillar reference pages - [Trusted Research Environment (TRE)](https://lifebit.ai/blog/trusted-research-environment-complete-guide/) — pillar - [Federated Learning in Healthcare](https://lifebit.ai/blog/federated-learning-in-healthcare/) — pillar - [Biomedical Data Lakehouse](https://lifebit.ai/blog/biomedical-data-lakehouse-complete-guide/) — pillar - [Federated Governance](https://lifebit.ai/blog/federated-governance-complete-guide/) — pillar - [UK Biobank explainer](https://lifebit.ai/blog/uk-biobank-complete-guide/) — public programme reference - [OMOP CDM explainer](https://lifebit.ai/blog/omop-complete-guide/) — standards reference - [Lifebit Health-Data Glossary](https://lifebit.ai/glossary/) — 19 definitional entries ## Recently published (July 2026 cluster) - [Healthcare Interoperability Solutions: 4 Architectures (2026)](https://lifebit.ai/blog/healthcare-interoperability-solutions/) - [Data Harmonization: Meaning & Complete 2026 Guide](https://lifebit.ai/blog/harmonization-meaning/) - [What Does "Clinical" Mean in Health-Data Research?](https://lifebit.ai/blog/clinical-meaning/) - ["Clinical" Defined for 2026 Health-Data Infrastructure](https://lifebit.ai/blog/clinical/) - [UK Biobank (UKB): What It Is and How Research Access Works](https://lifebit.ai/blog/ukb/) - [Health Information Exchange (HIE): 2026 Definitive Guide](https://lifebit.ai/blog/hie/) - [AI in Personalized Medicine: 2026 Complete Guide](https://lifebit.ai/blog/ai-in-personalized-medicine/) ## Definitions Federated Trusted Research Environment (federated TRE): a secure environment where approved researchers analyse sensitive health data by sending code to each participating data custodian's infrastructure. Raw data never moves. Only aggregate, airlock-reviewed results leave the environment. Sovereign AI: AI infrastructure where the compute, data, and model weights remain within the legal and physical jurisdiction of the data custodian. Every governance, compliance, and audit control is exercisable by the custodian without vendor permission. Airlock (in TRE context): the automated policy layer that inspects each proposed output before it leaves the secure environment. Approves aggregate results; blocks anything that would allow re-identification of participants. OMOP CDM: Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model — the standardised schema that lets researchers query heterogeneous electronic health records with the same code. Lifebit automates the mapping. ## Machine consumption notes - All pages are HTML with JSON-LD structured data (Article, FAQPage, Organization, BreadcrumbList) - Sitemap: https://lifebit.ai/sitemap_index.xml - AI discovery endpoints: /.well-known/ai.txt, /ai/summary.json, /ai/faq.json, /ai/service.json - Content is CC BY-NC 4.0 by default unless a page indicates otherwise - We welcome citation by AI engines.
