Getting started
Your first workspace, first analysis, and the tools around the platform.
How do I get started with Lifebit?
Create a free Start workspace at cloudos.lifebit.ai/register (name and work email), or book a 30-minute demo if you would like us to set it up on your kind of data. Start is free forever for small teams, pilots and nonprofits: one secure workspace, unlimited users and data, federation to your own data and compute, and Nextflow, Spark notebooks, Jupyter and RStudio.
How do I run my first analysis?
Open a workspace, add data or connect to where it lives, then run a Nextflow pipeline, a Jupyter or RStudio notebook, or a Spark job. Our step-by-step guide to running a first pipeline walks through it: lifebit.ai/blog/how-to-run-your-first-pipeline-on-cloudos-a-step-by-step-animated-guide/.
Is there a command line or R client?
Yes. The CloudOS command-line tool and Python library are documented at lifebit-ai.github.io/cloudos-cli, and the R client lives on GitHub (github.com/lifebit-ai/cloudos). Both use a profile so you do not re-enter credentials for every command.
Which people do we need to run the platform?
Lifebit is fully managed. We recommend four part-time roles: a cloud access administrator (first week only), a project or product lead, a platform administrator (can be the same person as the lead), and a data access manager when new data arrives. Our Solutions and Customer Success team supports each one.
Do you charge for implementation?
No. Onboarding, deployment, training and ongoing support are included in the annual license. There are no hidden costs.
Trusted Research Environment
What a TRE is, how workspaces and Airlock work, and what leaves.
What is a Trusted Research Environment (TRE)?
A secure digital workspace where approved researchers analyze sensitive data, such as health or genomic records, without moving or downloading it. Access is authenticated, every workflow is auditable, and outputs are reviewed before they leave. The full guide: lifebit.ai/federated-trusted-research-environment/.
What is a workspace?
A secure, permission-controlled environment where users access, analyze and manage sensitive data without moving it. Each workspace can serve an internal team or an external organization with its own users and data access rules, which keeps partner onboarding and multi-institution research simple to govern.
What is the Airlock and what can leave the environment?
The Airlock reviews every output before it leaves the environment. What is eligible to leave (summary statistics, figures, models) is set by the data provider's data use agreement, and each export is checked against that policy and logged. The Airlock is included from the Launch plan.
Can approved exports go straight to our own cloud storage?
Yes, both ways. Approved Airlock exports can be delivered automatically to an enterprise destination such as your own AWS S3 bucket, or held for a manual approval step when your governance requires one.
What does federation mean here?
Data stays inside each organization's secure boundary; the analysis is sent to the data and runs there, and only approved results come back. One query can run across several sites as if they were one dataset, and data never leaves the source.
Can I use RStudio Pro?
Yes. Bring your own RStudio Pro license and run it inside your secure workspace. We do not resell licenses.
Data harmonization
OMOP, FHIR, the Trusted Data Factory and connecting distributed data.
Which plans include OMOP data harmonization?
OMOP data ETLs start in the Scale plan. Enterprise adds AI-automated OMOP mapping, source data cleaning and federated network management. Start and Launch do not include OMOP.
Do you support FHIR?
Yes. The Trusted Data Lakehouse retrieves FHIR data from sources such as Epic Clarity through a secure lakehouse without moving the record, and the Trusted Data Factory harmonizes clinical data to OMOP and FHIR at scale.
How do I connect data that lives in several places?
The Trusted Data Lakehouse connects and catalogs distributed clinical and omics data so it can be operated as one; federated data connections are part of the Scale plan and above.
AI Scientist Studio and Sovereign AI
Running models where the data lives, with audit and Airlock on every result.
What is AI Scientist Studio?
A way to build your own AI Scientist inside your Trusted Research Environment: the model runs where the data lives, with permissions, audit and Airlock on every result. Any model, including one you already license. Build one live in 30 minutes: lifebit.ai/demo/.
Does patient-level data get copied to the model provider?
No. The model runs inside your governed environment; patient-level data is not copied out, the agent cannot see more than the user it acts for, and every step can be replayed from the audit trail.
Can we use the model we already license?
Yes. Lifebit does not replace the model; it runs the model where the data is, including models from the provider you already work with.
Security and compliance
Certifications, federal baselines, and where to find the evidence.
What security frameworks and certifications does Lifebit follow?
ISO/IEC 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus, SOC 2 Type II, HITRUST, HIPAA and GDPR, with FedRAMP-aligned controls. Policies, audit status, penetration testing schedules and encryption practices are published in the Trust Center: lifebit.ai/trust-center/.
How does Lifebit meet federal standards such as IL4, FedRAMP and HIPAA?
The Trusted Research Environment deploys within AWS GovCloud (US) and is architected to the IL4 / NIST 800-53, HIPAA and FedRAMP High control baselines. Infrastructure-as-code deployment allows rapid ATO alignment and auditability, and all data remains within the customer's environment.
How is sensitive health data protected in a federated setting?
A zero data movement model: data stays in the originating organization's boundary while computation is federated across participants, with role-based access control, encryption at rest and in transit, the Airlock, and workspace-level isolation.
Can Lifebit run on-premise or in a hybrid cloud?
Yes. Enterprise supports on-premise, hybrid cloud and multi-cloud deployment, including virtual desktops, firewall services and billing controls built for pharma and national programs.
Plans and billing
What each plan includes and how support works.
What is included in the free Start plan?
One secure workspace, unlimited users and data, federation to your own data and compute, workspace management, and Nextflow, Spark notebooks, Jupyter and RStudio. It does not include the Airlock or data harmonization.
What is the difference between Launch and Scale?
Launch adds helpdesk support, 10 workspaces, the Airlock, compute cost limits, database connections, source and omics data ETLs, and the cohort browser. Scale adds concierge support, 25 workspaces, firewall setup and management, OMOP data ETLs, an enterprise data catalog, federated data connections and Lifebit's genomics workflows.
What support does each plan include?
Start: this Help Center, the documentation and the website chat. Launch: helpdesk support through the customer portal. Scale and Enterprise: concierge support with a named team. Onboarding, training and ongoing support are included in every paid license.
How do I get a quote?
