Preferential Cloud Access, Fully Managed by Lifebit
The Lifebit Trusted Research Environment runs on every major public cloud, tightly integrated with the security, compute, storage, analytics and AI services natively offered by the cloud providers. This provides the agility you need to leverage your cloud provider of choice, whenever and however you want.
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Lifebit’s Trusted Research Environment on Azure enables secure, in-place analysis of sensitive biomedical and health data — without ever moving it. Integrated with Azure’s native security, identity, and data services, Lifebit makes it easy to launch a fully compliant, federated research environment in just a few clicks.
Microsoft Azure
Lifebit’s Trusted Research Environment is fully integrated with AWS, enabling secure, federated analysis directly on S3-hosted datasets. Leverage native AWS services alongside Lifebit’s in-situ analytics, role-based access, and compliance features — without ever centralizing or duplicating data.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Trusted Research Environment (TRE)?
A Trusted Research Environment (TRE) is a secure digital workspace that allows approved researchers to access and analyze sensitive data — such as health or genomic information — without moving or downloading it. TREs are designed to meet strict privacy, security, and compliance standards by ensuring safe data access, secure user authentication, and auditable research workflows. Commonly used in healthcare and life sciences, TREs protect patient data while enabling high-impact research.
What is included in Lifebit’s “Start” plan?
The Start plan is a free forever tier designed for small teams, pilots, and nonprofits. It includes:
1 secure workspace
Unlimited users and data
Essential analytics tools (Nextflow, Jupyter, R-Studio, VS Code, NF-Core workflows)
Workspace management
Note: This plan excludes data harmonization and advanced security.
What’s the difference between the Launch and Scale plans?
Launch is ideal for mid-size teams needing helpdesk support and core TRE capabilities like Airlock, Firewall, and Federation. It includes 10 workspaces, Spark-based analytics, and essential ETLs.
Scale adds powerful analytics workflows, OMOP harmonization, and cost controls, plus concierge support and 25 workspaces—making it ideal for public health orgs and federated research programs.
Which Lifebit plans support OMOP data harmonization?
OMOP Data ETLs start in the Scale plan.
Enterprise expands this with AI-powered OMOP mapping, cleaning, and full federated data network capabilities.
The Start and Launch plans do not include OMOP support.
Can Lifebit support on-premise deployment or hybrid cloud environments?
Yes. Lifebit’s Enterprise plan supports fully customizable deployment models, including on-premise, hybrid cloud, and multi-cloud setups. This includes VDI, firewall services, and advanced billing infrastructure designed for pharma and national programs.
What is included in Lifebit’s Trusted Research Environment (TRE)?
Every Lifebit TRE includes:
Airlock (controlled data export)
Firewall (role-based access and VDI)
Federation (run analysis where data lives)
From Launch upward, TRE tools are built-in. Enterprise clients also receive tokenization, EHR connectors, and audit controls.
What is a Workspace?
A workspace in Lifebit is a secure, permission-controlled environment where users can access, analyze, and manage sensitive data without moving it. It supports safe collaboration, workflow execution, and cohort analysis — all within a compliant Trusted Research Environment (TRE).
Each workspace can be dedicated to an internal team or an external organization, housing all of its users and data access configurations in one isolated space. This makes it ideal for federated research, multi-institution collaborations, or partner onboarding at scale.
Do you charge implementation services?
No — Lifebit does not charge for implementation or professional services. All onboarding, deployment, and ongoing support are fully included in your annual license.
We believe success shouldn’t come with surprise fees. From initial setup to training and optimization, it’s all covered — no hidden costs, ever.
Are Lifebit the only truly Federated platform?
Yes — Lifebit is the only platform that offers true federated analytics across any data, cloud, or geography without ever moving the data.
Unlike most SaaS platforms that require you to centralize data in their environment, Lifebit’s patented federated architecture lets you run analyses directly where the data resides — whether it’s on-premise, in your own cloud, or across multiple sites.
Other platforms might offer “controlled access,” but still require data or compute to be moved into their system. Lifebit enables secure, in-situ computation and analytics — without compromising sovereignty, compliance, or performance.
What personnel is required to run the Lifebit Platform?
Lifebit is a fully managed solution, but to ensure smooth deployment and long-term success, we recommend the following roles:
Cloud Access Administrator
Grants initial access to your cloud environment (e.g. AWS, Azure).
Time required: typically only during the first week of setup.
Project/Product Lead
Manages internal coordination, aligns stakeholders, tracks timelines, and serves as the main point of contact throughout the engagement.
Time required: ongoing throughout the duration of the project.
Platform Administrator
Manages user onboarding, assigns permissions, configures workspaces, and serves as the internal technical champion for the platform.
Time required: ongoing
Note: The Platform Administrator and Project/Product Lead can be the same person if needed.
Data Access Manager / Steward
Understands your datasets and schemas, provisions access, and supports data ingestion or harmonisation processes.
Time required: as needed, particularly when ingesting new data.
These roles are not full-time and are fully supported by Lifebit’s Solutions and Customer Success Team.
